Limiting company travel

This measure aims to reduce Significa's environmental impact while travelling.

It is designed to ensure that only necessary travel takes place while guaranteeing you opt for the most cost-effective and environmentally-responsible option.

By following these guidelines, we can keep travel expenses low while saving the planet.

The policy.

Avoid unnecessary travel.

If you can attend a meeting, workshop or conference online, you should do so whenever possible.

Ask yourself: “Do I really need to travel?" or even “Is there a real advantage in being there in person?”. If the answer is “No,” stay put and do it online.

Only you can judge that best, and considering our motto, Maximum freedom, maximum responsibility, we trust you to come to the most sensible conclusion.

Domestic flights are not refunded.

Flying within mainland Portugal is not sponsored by Significa unless the only alternative is walking.

You can, obviously, still take a plane. We can't forbid you. We are not the police. However, if you choose to do so, Significa will not cover the cost of such a flight.

You'll be excused from the above if trains are on strike (which happens frequently), buses aren't available (which rarely happens but takes four hours), and you don't own a car.

In addition, if the alternative mode of transportation implies an extra overnight stay or an unsuitable arrival schedule, realistically speaking, making flying the only suitable option, this policy won't apply.

However, please make sure you arrange your working trips to avoid taking domestic flights. We wish to make this policy a social responsibility one rather than a strict enforcement of laws.

Choose the friendlier mode.

Typically, the one with the old ladies. They are usually really friendly and keen for a shit-chat.

In other words, favour buses and trains. These should always be preferred for domestic travel to the detriment of other means of transportation.

Cars may be used if shared with other people in case flying is the only alternative. You can also take the car by yourself if, obviously, there are no other modes of transportation available.

Limit Uber and taxis.

When possible, you should opt for mass transit transportation options instead of low-capacity alternatives like Uber and taxis.

At any point, if you feel taking public mass transit transportation may put your safety at risk, don’t hesitate to take the alternative you deem the safest.

Booking travel.

All travel should be approved by your Project Manager and (team) Manager.

All travel should be booked in advance by Catarina. Please make sure you notify her with enough head start to ensure the lowest possible fares.
